Active Setup

We have notices that some version numbers and the installed status shown in the Active Setup table are not aligned with the actual installed software or component.
Where in Windows does WINADIT find the Active Setup data?
If is a reliable list of installed software in addition to the Installed Software report?
Thanks!

Hi,

The progamme looks in the System registry at:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components
See method SoftwareInformation::GetActiveSetupRecords in modlue http://winaudit.codeplex.com/SourceControl/latest#WinAudit/Source%20Files/SoftwareInformation.cpp

WinAudit is a very simple utilty, it echos what its told by the OS. Typically this registry data is for display purposes. If incorrect, I guess when the component was updated, it did not write a commensurate entry into the registry.

You can see all the software data that WinAudit is able to find by selecting on the menu, View -> Software Information. A new tab will open with the data in text format. You can search (Edit -> Find) or save (File -> Save) it as a text file with the default name software_information.txt. It contains software titles and updates from the Registry, Windows Installer, WMI and the Windows Update Agent. WinAudit merges this information into a single list and shows it at the GUI.
